Video Story Idea

Story Idea:
Our group's focus for the video project will be how Meals on Wheels and More helps local Austin hunger issues. With the large number of homeless people in Austin, there is a greater problem in solving hunger. Our video will open with Austin Restaurant Week and how many participants are unaware of where exactly the proceeds from the event contribute to. For every meal bought during the event, a meal is made for Meals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels and More is an organization that provides pre-made meals for the homeless or hungry. Our video is going to look deeper into the group and see how they affect our local area.

Structure:
·        The structure of our video will lead in with Austin Restaurant Week. Including, a variety of large and medium shots on the city and restaurants participating.
·        Here we would like to interview a pedestrian and if they knew where the profits went towards and their feelings on the event.
·        Next, we will introduce and describe the program Meals on Wheels runs. Visually we will have footage of the building and volunteers.
·        Then, we will interview a leader or volunteer who will explain the organization and its help in the Austin area.
·        In between interviews we plan to have interesting b-roll to make sure the interviews are not lengthy.

Video/ Text Component:
The video will include many scenes of Austin Restaurant Week to open up the piece with the city of Austin. Then will introduce Meals on Wheels and More and have shots of their work, volunteers, and people they are helping. Text will include stats of how much money and/or meals have been made in the past for Meals on Wheels and More. We will also include names of interviewees, buildings, and other subjects that might need a label.

Potential organizations/subjects to interview:
  1. 1.     Student or pedestrian contributing to Austin’s Restaurant week and asking about their knowledge on the charity they are giving to.
  2. 2.     A volunteer or two for Meals on Wheels and More and having them describe the organization in their words and what it means for others to participate in the programs or events they put on to raise awareness (like Austin’s Restaurant Week).
  3. 3.     An organizer or leader for Meals on Wheels to get a summary or history on the organization and its affect on the Austin area with the large amount of homeless people living here today.

  1. It looks like a very good plan. It would be nice to provide some background information about, for example, the homeless in Austin, how it compares with the national stats, and how it relates to the big picture-economy, how the City of Austin addresses the problem, etc. Just some ideas.
