Random Roommates Video
Universities across the nation face the issue of matching up potential roommates in the best way possible. While personality surveys, schedule matchups, and many other methods of assignment have the potential for success, problems will always exist. Here, we look at how this issue has affected students at The University of Texas, and if going “potluck” is a good choice for incoming freshmen.

Roommate conflict story summary
Marcus Cardoza, Will Cobb, Morgan Neustein & Julia Farrell.
A- Our idea is to make a video story focusing on the obstacles faced by students living with roommates on campus. Many students encounter conflict with their roommates, whether they were assigned a random roommate or roomed with a friend. We want to discuss and explore how the selection processes in regards to roommate matching works, and the strategy of dealing with arising conflicts.
B- We are going to gather information by talking to university housing residents, and conduct interviews with resident assistants in on-campus dorms, as well as a member of the university administration that works with the housing department. Depending on the information we find, we will determine which direction to take the focus of the video. The story could focus on roommate conflicts on a personal level, and how they are dealt with, or focus on the assignment process of potluck roommates, and how the system could be improved.
C- Our text component will first introduce viewers to the topic by giving some basic background information on the issue. In this introduction, we will provide viewers with a basic understanding of the process for roommate assignment, and questions that we looked to answer in the video. After the video, we will summarize the findings of our investigation and give further information about the story that is not covered in our interviews. We will offer a conclusion to the story, and ensure that all questions that were addressed in the introduction are answered.
D- 1: A student who has had a conflict with a randomly assigned roommate. This will give a face to the issue, and provide evidence that problems do exist.
2: A resident assistant. RA's have personal experience being the liaison between students who are having issues, and the administration behind the system.
3: A university administrator involved with the division of housing. This will provide the point of view of someone who could potentially be able to make changes, and can offer an explanation for the current system.

Boring Podcast Extra Credit- Julia Farrell
This audio podcast is boring because the man's voice is very monotone. His voice is also extremely low, which makes it hard to understand what he is saying because the sound is very muffled. The man also keeps repeating "um" between words, which disconnects the sentences and makes it difficult to make sense out of what he is saying.

Julia Farrell
Hey there! My name is Julia Farrell, I am a freshman at The University of Texas. I am a Journalism major at UT, and I hope to pursue a career in broadcast journalism. My hobbies include dancing, writing, and shopping. I am also proud to be apart of Greek life on the UT campus, as I am a Texas Alpha Phi.
I had the pleasure of meeting two new friends in lab today. Their names are Raven Brooks and Haley Cavazos. Raven Brooks is a Journalism Major from Houston, Texas. She is a junior at The University of Texas at Austin. One of Raven's favorite TV shows is Supernatural. Haley Cavazos is a Journalism major from Frisco, Texas. Haley is a freshman at UT. Haley is also a dancer, and she likes all styles of dance except for ballroom. My partners and I were talking about our favorite websites to get news from, and we agreed on the following two news sites.
I don't believe our blog would be complete without a little UT spirit. And so, I've included the Univeristy of Texas video and a picture of our beloved mascot, Bevo! Hook 'em horns!
