Video Project Story Idea

Idea: "Different groups based on clothing and style"

Title:  "Who you are is more important than what you wear"- quote by designer, Kenneth Cole

Theme: Self- Identity vs. Group Identity

A. Exploring: How different groups (e.g. fraternities, sororities, etc.) are identified by the clothes they wear. The stereotypes assigned to these different groups are created by outside perspectives, this leads to students who aren't involved with these groups being falsely identified.

B. The structure of our story will be based upon interviews from Sociology professors, fraternities, sororities, and other students to build more depth in the content of our project. We will use the Sociology professor to provide more information on why and how students seem to identify differently based on what groups they're a part of.

C. The video footage will provide contextual information to explain the cultural differences in clothes that are being represented by the groups we will be interviewing. This will show how this will impact different genders and age groups around campus and will explore how students who aren't involved in these groups build different perceptions and stereotypes about them.

D. We will interview the following groups/people:

1.Christine L Williams, Sociology Department Chair

2. Kappas ( Fraternity)

3.and a Sorority that we're still deciding upon.

DSB1 and A little bit about me.

Me:
Ok. Hello, My name's Theresa and I'm a junior and journalism major. I'm pretty quiet, which is weird for a journalism major to be such an introvert, but I think I can get by by focusing on print journalism instead of broadcast. I love writing, reading, learning languages and new cultures. I just moved from Missouri, so everything about Austin is pretty new and exciting to me- especially the way people drive here. I always feel like I'm stepping out into a war zone when I'm driving just because of how crazy it is down here, though, I have heard that Dallas is much worse. As for a little more background information on me, I have a cat named Gemini, he's adorable yet dangerously unpredictable. Also, I have a weakness for books, mmorpgs, Law and Order: SVU, Law and Order (the original version), Necessary Roughness, Suits, White Collar, and of recently Chicago Fire. I watch a fair amount of  TV or play games when I'm not doing homework or looking for job, it's kind of my vice. This is especially true when L&O:SVU is running a marathon on USA. Hmm... Let's see... what else can I tell you guys.... Oh. ok. I've been avoiding Facebook for about a month now. Since I don't have much to do, I got into the bad habit of  ALWAYS going on Facebook multiple times a day out of sheer boredom. In order to fix my addiction I've forced myself into a Facebook Rehab. I'm not a 'Tweeter' a 'Googleplus-er' either... but  I may have to force myself to get into at least twitter for this course...even though I'm pretty much against everything twitter stands for. Well... that's pretty much everything about me. I saw that everyone had pretty much introduced themselves and my poor post was way too boring for my liking, so here I am sprucing it up. I just want to share a few pretty random videos that I personally find amusing and then I'll get out of your hair. I tend to ramble a lot. These are just a few videos which supports my love for SVU, Supernatural, and Ryan Higa... I have a weird sense of humor, but these guys are just hilarious.

 Lab Assignment:
My favorite news sites are probably The Huffington Post, CNN, CSPAN, and Yahoo News. I like grabbing my information from a variety of sites, so I wander around sometimes and casually read articles on different sites when I get bored. I love international news though, so that's normally what I end up reading. Yahoo is more of a search engine, but that's normally where I first pick up top news stories in the beginning of the day. If I want to view more in depth articles, I go to the other sites. But that's about it. Here's a few sample videos featured on some of the sites.
