Video Story Idea: PoeReedSauceda
A. Our story idea is to explore UT's refusal to light the Tower blue for International Autism Awareness Day. Each year major landmarks around the world, like the Empire State Building and the Sydney Opera House, have used blue lights to "light up" to raise autism awareness. UT organizations that sponsor Autism Speaks, the national foundation for autism, have attempted to work with UT to light the tower without success. Our story would explore both sides of the story: why the tower should be lit up blue and why UT feels it shouldn’t be.
B. We anticipate that our story will be structured in the following manner: Feature Autism Speaks U and the issue at hand, feature a UT representative and UT's response to the issue, and feature a UT student's opinion on the subject.
C. Video will work with the story in terms of both action shots and interviews. This weekend Autism Speaks U will be hosting a both at UT sponsored 40 Acres Fest. At the both there will be subjects to interview, organization members and UT students, and action shots to capture. The both is set to have face painting, games, and educational and awareness activities. This organization is also sponsoring a Fun and Fit field day for children with autism. At this event it would be possible to interview parents of children with autism as well as children with autism. This event is held on UT campus and is sponsored by the Texas Autism Project. It might be possible to interview UT representatives at this event as well. Shots of the tower and the tower at night would be taken as well, in addition to shots of other buildings in the Austin community that have been lit up blue.
